A unique story of preservation, innovation and raw natural beauty.
On the West Coast of the South Island, storms, flooding, landslides and shifting rivers all fell native trees and send them on a slow journey toward the sea — a process that can unfold over centuries.
Buried beneath layers of silt and gravel, protected from oxygen, the timber undergoes a natural transformation. Colours deepen, grains tighten, and the wood takes on its own unmistakable character.
Every piece of Rivien timber is carefully tagged, documented, and recovered under strict Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI) approval, ensuring authenticity, sustainability, and the highest standards of environmental responsibility.
